Perfect Amino review: what it is, what BodyHealth claims, and who it suits
Facts checked on October 31, 2026. Prices and formulas change; check each brand's own site before you buy.
Perfect Amino is an essential amino acid (EAA) supplement sold by BodyHealth as tablets and as a flavored powder. It has a large, loyal following: thousands of reviews on BodyHealth's site and a 4.5-star average on Amazon. It also draws sceptical questions, mostly about its "99% utilization" figure and its protein-equivalence claims.
This review sets out what Perfect Amino is, what BodyHealth says about it, where those claims come from, and who it suits. We make a competing product, Rejuvenate Muscle Health, so we have kept to facts from BodyHealth's own pages and public label records, with links, and we say where Perfect Amino is the better choice.
The short version
Perfect Amino is a well-made, well-reviewed EAA supplement with a complete set of essential amino acids, a sweetener-free tablet option and NSF Certified for Sport versions. Its weak points are practical: a serving is five tablets or a scoop, BodyHealth suggests two to four servings a day, and the individual amino acid amounts are not disclosed. Its headline numbers ("up to 99% utilization", "the protein equivalent of 30 grams of whey") are BodyHealth's own claims and are best read as marketing until you have looked at the basis it gives.

What Perfect Amino is
Perfect Amino is a blend of free-form essential amino acids: leucine, valine, isoleucine, lysine, phenylalanine, threonine, methionine, tryptophan and histidine, plus what BodyHealth calls nucleic acid building blocks. A serving is 5 g, taken as five tablets or one scoop of powder. The tablets come coated or uncoated; the uncoated version has no binders or fillers, according to BodyHealth.
The 2024 label records in the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database list eight essential amino acids without histidine, while the current product pages list nine. If the exact formula matters to you, check the label on the product you buy.
The 99% utilization claim
BodyHealth says Perfect Amino delivers amino acids "in an optimal ratio for up to 99% utilization" and that this is "according to blood and urine tests." Its science article describes triple-blind crossover studies in which participants' urine and feces were collected. BodyHealth compares this with its own figures for whey, soy and pea (16 to 18%), meat (32%) and whole eggs (48%).
Two points help in reading this. First, utilization here refers to how much nitrogen is retained rather than broken down, which is a different question from how much muscle a supplement builds. Second, the comparison figures come from BodyHealth, not from an independent review. Read the studies BodyHealth cites before treating 99% as settled.
The protein-equivalence claims
BodyHealth describes a serving as "the protein equivalent of 30 grams of whey" and says "1 tablet of PerfectAmino is precisely 1 gram of protein." Its label puts one serving at the protein equivalent of 29 g of whey, soy, dairy or nuts. These are BodyHealth's claims, quoted as written.
Free-form amino acids are not the same thing as a protein food, and researchers note that a diet made only of essential amino acids falls short for muscle and growth (Klement, 2024). Whatever supplement you choose, keep eating protein at meals.
Calories
BodyHealth's numbers vary by page: the label says "less than one calorie" per serving, one page says "only 2 calories" and another "only four calories in a 5-tablet serving", and a 2024 article says ".04 calories per serving." Innerbody's independent review estimates around 17 calories, based on the general rule that amino acids carry about 4 calories per gram. That is Innerbody's estimate, not a lab measurement. For most people the difference will not matter; for anyone fasting strictly, it might.
Price
On bodyhealth.com a 150-tablet bottle (30 servings) is $44.95, or $1.50 a serving; larger sizes bring it down to $1.28. The 30-serving powder is $45.95. Subscribing saves 15%, taking the lowest price to about $1.09 a serving. At two to four servings a day, a day's supply runs from roughly $2.18 to $6.12.
What we like and what we would change
Strengths
- The nine essential amino acids, including tryptophan, on the current product pages.
- A tablet with no sweetener at all, and a powder sweetened without sucralose.
- NSF Certified for Sport versions for tested athletes.
- Many formats and flavors, and a large base of positive reviews.
Weak points
- Five tablets per serving, at two to four servings a day.
- A proprietary blend: the amount of each amino acid is not disclosed.
- Calorie figures that disagree across BodyHealth's own pages.
- Headline claims that rest on BodyHealth's description of its own research.
Who Perfect Amino suits, and who might prefer something else
Perfect Amino suits people who swallow tablets easily, want a sweetener-free option or tryptophan in the blend, or need NSF Certified for Sport. If the tablet count or the taste of the powder is the problem, a flavored single-serve option may be easier to keep up. See eight Perfect Amino alternatives, or compare it directly with Rejuvenate Muscle Health, a 5-calorie stick that activates muscle comparable to 20g of protein per serving†‡ and contains no protein.

Questions people ask
Is Perfect Amino worth it?
For people who take tablets easily and want a complete EAA blend, a sweetener-free option or NSF Certified for Sport, many reviewers think so: it averages 4.5 stars on Amazon. The main drawbacks are five tablets per serving, two to four servings a day, and undisclosed amounts in a proprietary blend.
Is Perfect Amino really 99% utilized?
That is BodyHealth's claim, which it attributes to blood and urine tests and crossover studies collecting urine and feces. Utilization in that sense describes nitrogen retained, not muscle built. Read the studies BodyHealth cites before treating the figure as settled.
Is 5 tablets of Perfect Amino really equal to 30 grams of whey?
BodyHealth describes one serving as the protein equivalent of 30 grams of whey. That is the company's own claim. Free-form amino acids are not a protein food, and you should keep eating protein at meals whatever supplement you take.
How many calories are in Perfect Amino?
BodyHealth's label says less than one calorie per serving; other BodyHealth pages say 0.04, 2 or 4. Innerbody estimates around 17 calories per serving based on typical amino acid energy values.
Does Perfect Amino have all the essential amino acids?
Its current product pages list nine essential amino acids, including tryptophan and histidine. The 2024 label records list eight without histidine, so the formula appears to have changed.
How many Perfect Amino should I take a day?
BodyHealth's user guide says one serving is 5 tablets or 1 scoop, and that most people take 2 to 4 servings a day.
What is a good alternative to Perfect Amino?
It depends on the reason for switching. Rejuvenate Muscle Health is one flavored stick instead of five tablets; Kion Aminos and Thorne Amino Complex list each amino acid amount; Naked EAAs is the lowest price per serving.
